Media Center
CLP Junior
High School's Media Technology Center was selected as
a "high performance power library" in May
of 2003, the first in Poudre School District. We received
this designation by exemplification of high quality
service, collaboration with staff, and professionalism.
We know through studies that student scores on standardized
tests increase with improvements in a school's media
program. Schools with well-developed media programs
averaged ten to fifteen percent higher reading scores
than schools without. At the CLPJH Media Center, we
are dedicated to providing your student with the best
information and education possible.

Accelerated
Reader Program and Contest
Are you a bookworm and enjoy reading books? If you
love to read, it doesn't get any better than this. Each
semester the CLPJH Media Center sponsors an Accelerated
Reader contest. Readers of all levels can choose AR
books that have different point values, depending on
their length and reading difficulty. To enter the contest,
simply read your personally selected AR books and then
take the short computerized tests on them at your convenience.
It's quick, it's easy, and it's fun. Your cumulative
points, based on book values and the number of correct
test answers you score, will be tracked for you throughout
the semester. Top point earners win $50 for first prize,
$25 for second prize, and $15 for third prize. Why not
get paid to read? (You could spend your prize money
on ...books.) Get started earning those points today!

Student
Aides
The Media Center is always on the lookout for a
few good Student Aides. Students who know their books
and love to read ought to consider rounding out their
schedules by joining the Media Center Team. Student
Media Aides run the circulation desk, learn new job
skills, and earn a grade as well. If you are interested
in helping others and would like to be considered for
a library position for the upcoming semester, stop by
the Media Center and talk to Mr. McKibben today.
Volunteer
at the CLPJH Media Center!
The Media Center is a happening kind of place for
CLPJH students! Activities are scheduled throughout
day to support learning projects. In addition to supporting
students and staff in their learning tasks, the Media
Center also serves the nearby local communities. Throughout
any given month a variety of community meetings, tutoring
appointments, LINC Library, and After Hours programs
are scheduled in the Media Center during afternoon and
evening hours. The Media Center is always in need of
assistance for meeting the wide variety of needs and
demands of our students, parents, teachers, and community
members. Won't you please consider volunteering in the
CLPJH Media Center in one of the following areas?
Book Fairs
Fundraising
Collection Maintenance·
Reading Programs
If you would like to help with the upcoming Book Fair or volunteer in the Media Center in another way, please call or send us an email and let us know your area of interest. We could always use your help.
Media Center
Hours
The Media Center is open from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00
p.m. (Special Hours apply for LINC Library and After
School Programs). Students are welcome in the library
with a signed pass at any time during the school day,
including before school and during their lunch period.
The Media Center is open during all three-lunch periods
for study or quiet activities. Students who want to
use the Media Center during their lunch hour should
stop in before school or during passing periods and
pick up a Media Center Lunch Pass. Students are asked
not to be in the Media Center during regularly scheduled
staff meetings. Special space arrangements are made
for those students staying after school for Partners
or LINC Library programs while staff meetings are in
session.
Behavior
Policy in the Media Center
Students may not visit the Media Center for free
time or for "playing" on the computers. You
will be held accountable for your behavior. Students
must have a teacher's pass and a job to do while in
the center. Students should leave the Media Center in
better shape than they found it (push chairs in, pick
up paper scraps and trash, etc.)
Materials
Available to Students
Fiction and nonfiction books, periodicals, magazines
are all available to students and staff. Additionally,
students may also check out multimedia equipment, tape
recorders, Alpha Smart units (word processing keyboards)
by using their student ID at the circulation desk. Video
and photographic equipment is also available to students
working on class projects by special arrangement. Reference
books (marked on their end bindings with an "R")
may be used in the library but are not to be checked
out. These materials remain in the library to be accessible
to all. Ten PC's are available for student use while
the Media Center is open.
Check Out
Policies
Up to four books may be checked out and kept for
a standard two-week checkout period. These items can
be renewed for an additional two weeks if the student
needs additional time. Audiotapes are also subject to
the standard two-week checkout period. Multimedia equipment
is checked out for overnight only and must be returned
to the Media Center before the next day's classes begin.
Fines and
Overdue Materials
The overdue book fine rate is 10 cents per book
per day, with a maximum $2.50 charge for any one borrowing
period. As always, students are never charged for weekends
or for days when school is not in session. Student accounts
are frozen if they have fines of $1.00 and over or have
overdue materials still out. Additionally, students
who have lost materials are asked for the replacement
cost of the item before they are eligible for library
checkout privileges again. Students have the same media
account throughout their student life within Poudre
School District.
