Dear 2nd Graders and Families,
Second grade is a year for building on all of the skills learned in kindergarten
and first grade. Your student will experience many exciting investigations such
as inquiries into insects, geology, history, our community, and health. We will
be practicing many styles of writing, from expository and narrative to letter
writing and poetry. Our reading themes are units such as Kindness, Fossils and
Our Country and Its People. Students will read both fiction and non-fiction
stories.
Following the Everyday Math spiraling curriculum, we will explore numbers, geometry,
play math games, and learn many skills for problem solving.
Your child will have the opportunity to work alone, in small groups, and also
as a classroom community. Second graders are very well versed in and proud of
the ways in which they show and use the IB profiles and attitudes to be successful
in the classroom.
Things to look forward to in 2nd grade are:
Spanish class, field trips, a community action project, a musical program, art,
computer lab, physical education, Pioneer School Day.
We look forward to an excellent and fun year with our students. Thank you for
sharing your children with us!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Daly, Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Taylor
