Dear 4th Grade Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to 4th grade! This year will be an exciting time for children to explore
new ideas and learn more about themselves. Throughout this year we will be inquiring
into, how decisions influence our actions. To launch the new year, we will be
looking at the physical, social, and emotional self, in addition, to learning
about future careers. Students will have the opportunity to investigate their
interests of possible occupations through a career fair. Then we are off to
examine how various factors influence and change cultures. Through this study
we will take an in-depth look into our state's history. To make history come
alive we will be participating in a district led simulation of a Rendezvous,
right here in our back yard. We will research how conflicts are a result of
limited resources followed by a spirited debate. With out missing a beat, we
plunge into science and explore inventors and their amazing inventions. Your
child will have the opportunity of becoming an inventor and presenting in our
student-led Invention Convention. Finally, your students will have the hands-on
experience of creating and running their own business.
Since this is your child's first year as an intermediate student, they will
have the opportunity to participate in the following activities and clubs: Student
Council, Safety Patrol, Spelling Bee, the Inquiry Fair, Honor Choir, Japanese
Club, Running Club, Robotics, Chess Club and Positive Picassos.
Your child will also have the opportunity to participate in our fun and exciting
B.E.A.T. (Basics, Enrichment, Acceleration and Technology) classes. In B.E.A.T.
your child will get to select three classes they would like to take for the
last hour of the day. There are a wide variety of classes that are taught during
these sessions. They range from science to social studies, from drama to social
skills. Some of the classes that students have enjoyed in the past are Robotics,
Research and Multimedia, Toothpick Bridges, Poetry, Readers Theater, Physics,
Race Across Australia, Chemistry, Micro World, Graphing Club, Aztecs and Maya's,
Geology, Plants, Drama, Polyhedraville and many more challenging and engaging
classes.
Considering all of this, we are very excited about the new school year.
Sincerely,
Ms. Croak and Ms. Parton
