Fossil Fuels
Coal, oil, and gas are all fossil fuels because they are made from the organic remains of old animals and plants, or fossils. Just because they sound "natural" doesn't mean that they are good for the environment. Actually, fossil fuels are extremely bad for the environment because they pollute. Coal is made by getting crushed and then burnt. Oil and gas are just burnt. Some advantages of fossil fuels are that they generate very large amounts of electricity. Some down sides are that they pollute by emitting carbon dioxide, which causes the warming of the earth. It also causes acid rain, which is polluted rain. Burning coal produces more carbon dioxide than burning gas or oil. Fossil fuels aren't always the best choice for fuel, and we have alternative ways to fuels our cars and heat our homes right here on our planet.
