International Baccalaureate Program: Dunn offers two authorized IB programs.
Grades K-5 are involved in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.
Grade 6 is part of Poudre School District Middle Years Program.
The International Baccalaureate Curriculum:
· fosters the individual talents of students
· teaches students to relate classroom experiences to the realities of the world
· develops critical and compassionate thinkers, life-long learners, and informed participants in local and world affairs
· inspires student initiated action or community service
· requires students to learn an additional language
Spanish Language Instruction: Foreign language instruction
is a key component of an International Baccalaureate school. K-5
students receive 60 minutes of Spanish instruction weekly while 6th
graders receive 90 minutes weekly.
All Day Kindergarten: In addition to two sessions of
half-day kindergarten, a full-day kindergarten is available for a
fee.
Advanced Math: Dunn is the home school for seventh grade math which
is taught from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. every morning.
Diversity: We celebrate our diverse student population.
Dunn has a significant number of students from around the world.
Site-Based Management: Our decision-making team has
representatives from staff, administration, parents, and the
community. We work together to build a safe, challenging, and joyful
learning environment for children.
B.E.A.T. Program: (Basics, Enrichment, Acceleration and Technology Program)
4th-6th students select from a variety of elective courses taught by staff,
parents, and community experts. Courses have included Lego Logo, sports statistics,
chemistry, puppetry, journalism, computer art and others. Classes are multi-aged
grouped and meet the last hour of the school day.
Enrichment Opportunities for Students:
Positive Picassos: Students exercise and display their artistic talents with a variety of art mediums. Sponsored by Mrs. Metcalf.
Fast Forward Fridays: Grades 4-6: Field trips, hands-on activities, and presentations for GT students. Sponsored by Mr. Shinneman.
Honor Choir: Performs throughout the school year. Sponsored by Mrs. Hinson
World Drumming Ensemble: Sponsored by Mrs. Hinson
Horticulture Club: Starting with seedlings and culminating in an autumn harvest, club members are responsible for the beautiful flower and produce gardens at Dunn.
Japanese Language Class: Sensei Tim teaches Japanese before and after school twice weekly.
Chinese Language Class: Chinese language class is taught once a week before school.
Morning News Show: 6th grade tudents write, perform, direct and videotape a daily television news show broadcast every morning throughout the school. Sponsored by Mr. Shinneman.
Student Ambassadors: Help conduct tours of Dunn for our many visitors. Sponsored by Mrs. Godbold and Mr. Shinneman.
Safety Patrol: Assist with assemblies and help younger students safely reach their after school transportation. Sponsored by Mrs. Mark.
Student Council: Representatives gain leadership experience through service projects. Sponsored by Mrs. Mark.
