What is Fort Collins Business Leaders?

FCBL is a student run organization that consists of members of DECA (Marketing Club) and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)

What is the difference between DECA and FBLA?

DECA is marketing-oriented with contests emphasizing sales, customer service, advertising, management, and entrepreneurship activities.

FBLA is more business-oriented: math, accounting, international business, computers, public speaking, job interview, English, business law, etc.

Go to: http://www.fbla-pbl.org/ and http://www.deca.org/ for more information.

When does the club meet?

Tuesdays at 7:00 a.m. in M205. The group meets more frequently when the club is planning events or practicing for district contests.

Why do the clubs meet together?

These two organizations meet as one club because the interests of students overlap in the two areas, and students have more opportunities to take part in district and state activities.

When and where are the contests?

The DECA district contest takes place in November at the Fort Collins Marriott. The State DECA Conference is at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs in February.

The FBLA district contest takes place in February at the Greeley Civic Center. FBLA state qualifiers meet in Vail for the State Conference in April.

What are the actual contests?

A s pecific list of events is vailable in the Marketing Department, or sekect "competitive events" on the FBLA and DECA links provided above.

Is there a charge for these clubs?

Yes. The state national dues are approximately $14 per organization. Because we meet as one club and have to pay dues to both organizations, we charge $28 for dues, which go directly to the state and national organizations.

There are also costs for the District and State Conferences. Student members can earn money for these conferences by participating in various fundraisers.

What are the Fundraisers?

You will choose the fundraisers for your group. In the past, students have sold Old Chicago Pizza Pals, and sold Bammy's cookies. Our club would welcome new ideas from you.

Who do I contact if I want to join?

Please talk to a current FBLA/DECA member, or see Ms. Kappel or Mrs. Davidson, in the business office. Listen for the announcements or check the boards around school to find out about the meetings.

Ms. Kappel is the DECA advisor. Her phone is 970.488.8126

Mrs. Davidson is the FBLA advisor. Her phone is 970.488.8124

We hope you decide to become an active member of Fort Collins Business Leaders.

We hope that you all decide to compete in FBLA and DECA district contests.
