Joe Foss Institute Award

Matthew Johnson, an FCHS senior, was recently awarded a $5000 scholarship from the Joe Foss Institute for an essay he wrote titled "The Past, Present, and Future of Freedom."  He is one of only three recipients nationwide of this scholarship. Matthew received the news during his 1st period class on Friday when Colonel James Tapp, a WWII veteran, presented him with the scholarship award.  The Joe Foss Institute is a non-profit organization of military veterans determined to "teach young people, especially students, about our nation's history, the military, patriotism and sacrifice in classroom encounters, school assemblies, and through special programs."
