) FRHS Advisory class

We have created a special structure to enable SaberCat students with a voice in school decisions and to build a strong sense of community. This aspect of Fossil Ridge is the advisory period. Each certified, on-campus staff member (with a couple of minor exceptions) will meet weekly with a small group of students. The pairings will be on going for three years. The purpose of the advisory is many fold, including though not limited to:

• Listening to and engaging students in decisions that impact Fossil Ridge High School
• Teaching the curriculum of the Critical Skills class in a developmentally appropriate sequence (this meets a PSD graduation requirement and enhances flexibility in staffing and student schedules)
• Strengthening the character of our school climate
• Affording students training in leadership skills
• Effectively using time for logistics of school operations, including registration, college applications and financial aid, and career planning
• Hosting guest speakers
• Enjoying assemblies and concerts
• Preparing for required tests (CSAP and ACT)
• SaberCat Fun!

Please note that the advisory time earns the student one credit each semester and evolves into a senior service project component the second semester of the student's senior year. These credits are required for graduation.
