We can hardly believe how our Fossil Ridge students performed at the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) state competition in Vail these last few days!

  • We took 17 students; 14 of them competed.
  • Of the 14, 10 ranked in the top 10 in the state in their event.
  • 7 of the 14 were top performers and will advance to national competition in Atlanta the end of June.
  • Sending any PSD student to nationals normally happens every year or two.  8 from PSD will go this year, and 7 are from Fossil!
  • FRHS was recognized for having the largest chapter (73 students) in District 1 (all of Larimer and Weld counties)
  • Nearly 2,400 students from Colorado participated.

This is huge!  Thank you to all the teachers who contributed to the success of these students.  Please congratulate the following Top 10 performers.  Those in bold will advance to nationals.

It is an incredible honor that student, Katie Burke has been selected as a Coloradoan All Star. Her success is a reflection of the quality educational experience she has had a FRHS. The awards dinner will take place on April 21st, 6 pm at the Marriott. Congratulations Katie!

Please join us in a loud cheer and "congratulations" to our very own Jaime Gastelle for winning a NATIONAL GOLD AWARD for her self portrait in the Scholastic Competition!

Out of thousands of students and hundreds of schools – Jamie will be honored at Carnegie Hall – there were only 7 Gold Keys in Colorado.  (Kinard and RMHS had silver key winners – congratulations to them!)

Past winners of this honor include (When they were in high school.): Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Sue Miller and Robert Redford.

To view the art work please go to: www.scholastic.rmcad.edu

As you may remember, she was one of three of our students who earned a "Gold Key" award at the state level. Additionally, her work won the "American Vision Award" for the drawing category. Her Drawing then went on to compete at the national level. Only 18 students from Colorado were honored with this prestigious award!

Go ART!

A big congrats goes to the Ambassadors Club who received the Cesar Chavez Award at a wonderful ceremony Thursday night (3/27/08) at CSU.  Counselors Melissa Vasa and Rachel Eaton were present along with student ambassadors Gabs Lucero, Kathleen Trimble, and Jamie Shields to accept the award on behalf of the organization and our school.  Kuddos to the Ambassadors for providing opportunities at FRHS for students to reach beyond social circles and accept others!

On Wednesday, March 12th, the Fossil Ridge HS Wind Symphony will be the featured group on a shared concert with the Colorado State University Wind Ensemble for the annual High School Invitational Concert. This is a real testament to the work the Band students have been doing, as only one group from around the state is selected each year.

We would like to invite you all to share this great performance with us.
The concert will be held in the University Center for the Arts Concert Hall (attached to the "old Ft. Collins HS") at 7:30pm on Wednesday, March 12th.
FRHS will perform, followed by the CSU Wind Ensemble, and the two groups will be combining for an incredible finale!

Please come out and support these very talented students!

Abby Van Hoewyk, Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers New Teacher of the Year Award Winner.

The night of February 5, 2008 was the 2008 All-State Choir performance at the Lincoln Center.  It was an incredible display of talent and class as our two representatives, Chelsea Kendall and Genevieve Shutzius, performed for a packed house of hundreds.

Please congratulate the girls on a job well done and let them know that you heard the performance was superb!
