PIV is not available on the second Saturday of every month

Fossil Ridge High School participates in the Pinnacle Internet Viewer (PIV) program. PIV is a web-based tool that allows teachers, parents and students access to grades and assignments. Parents and students can view information reported directly from teachers' grade book records using the Internet. PIV is a secure, password-protected distribution of information.

Fossil Ridge will make Pinnacle Internet Viewer (PIV) instructions available to parents for the 2007-2008 school year at the Back-to-School Night Monday, September 10, 2007. The information in the PIV letter will have the StudentID and PIN Code  required to view the student’s reports. Please call Fossil Ridge High School after September 10th at 488-6265 to request this letter or to obtain this information.

PIV redefines home-to-school connectivity. Real-time grade reporting means no more waiting for semester, weekly or even daily teacher reports or file downloads!  Changes or additions to student information are available instantly to both parents and students.  Teachers enter grade information into their electronic gradebook and PIV organizes and formats the data for convenient viewing at any time, day or night.

The Excelsior Pinnacle system acts as a firewall, ensuring the security of all student information. Now parents and students can be actively engaged in the education process by monitoring progress and missing assignments.

Note:  For security reasons, the displayed reports do not contain reference to a student name. Looking up previously referenced pages from this browser will not reveal the person to whom the data belongs.  The information available from this viewer is specific only to a given student ID and Pin code.   It is the obligation of the user of this web page to know the proper student ID and Pin code for the selected school site.

PIV is not meant to replace direct communication between you and your teachers. If you have questions about any of the information, please discuss them with your teachers.

Parents

The PIV service is not meant to replace direct communication between students, parents, teachers or other school staff members at FRHS. It is merely an additional tool. If you have questions about any of the information, please discuss them with you your child first. Then have your child discuss it with his/her teacher(s). If you need further clarification, please contact your child’s teacher.

Some helpful hints to keep in mind when using PIV:

Access and Technical Information

• PIV can be accessed from any Windows computer running Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. You may experience technical problems if you try to view PIV from a non-Windows computer and/or a browser other than Internet Explorer.
• If the PIV system/server is not available, please try again later as most access problems are corrected the same day.
• PIV is a district-wide system and is not maintained at FRHS, therefore we cannot control its availability and/or real-time accuracy.
• If you are logged on to the Viewer and sit idle, the Viewer will automatically become disabled. You will receive an error message when you attempt to access another report. You will need to close the Viewer and log on again.
• The Pinnacle Internet Viewer was not designed to allow printing of any reports. Therefore, any printed copies of student information from PIV are considered unofficial and may contain inaccurate data.
• The server that supports this system is shut down the second Saturday of every month for maintenance. The system is not available during that time.

  Understanding grades

• Teachers are expected to update grades every two weeks.
• Missing Assignments are denoted by:
  X (exempt) - not missing and not averaged into term grade.
  Z - missing and averaged as a zero in term grade.
  Blank - still to be graded or made-up, and not yet averaged into term grade.
  0 - assignments that were turned in but received no credit.
• Term grades are calculated by using total points or weighted categories.
• Teachers may round or overwrite individual and/or overall grades at their discretion.
• Grade breakpoints for classes: A = 90-100%, B = 80-89%, C = 70-79%, D = 60-69%, F < 60%

Accessing PIV

• Click on the link below to access PIV
                           
  
• Enter Student ID
• Enter PIN Code
• Select Fossil Ridge High from the Select School drop-down menu.
• Click on the Request Report button

The first page/report returned provides your student's overall grade information.

Choosing Individual Assignment Report:

• Select the class by using the Select a Class drop-down menu.
• From the Select a Report drop-down menu choose Class Grades Report.
• Select the current marking period from the Select a Marking Period drop-down menu.
• Click on the Request Report button.

The Report Card selection under Select a Report drop-down menu is only available after a grading period (i.e. First Semester, Second Semester).
