School Choice Information

If you do not live in the Fossil Ridge High School attendance area, but would like to attend, you may apply for School Choice.

The School Choice process has changed and the changes will go live on August 18, 2008.  In the past, the School Choice process has been a paper process and PSD is moving to an online process.  The online process will automate and streamline the process. More information on this process, the timeline, the policy, and the online School Choice application will be on our district Web site www.psdschools.org under the School Registration link on August 18th or click the following for the online School Choice Application

Another important process change that should be noted is the first consideration deadline for secondary schools (grades 6-12) will be the last Friday in January.  For 2009, the deadline will be January 30.  The elementary deadline will remain as the second Friday in February.  For next year that will be February 13, 2009.

If you miss the January deadline

School Choice Applications may be submitted online until the first day of class at the beginning of the school year of requested enrollment. Starting the first day of school, parents/guardians wishing to have their children change schools will need to follow the SCHOOL TRANSFER process.  There is a SCHOOL TRANSFER REQUEST form now available on the district website www.psdschools.org under School Registration or click the following for the School Transfer Request .

More about School Choice...

More than 70% of PSD families choose to send their children to Neighborhood Schools, the school located in the attendance area in which they live. Through School Choice, parents may register their child to attend a school outside their neighborhood attendance area. PSD’s School Choice program allows families to select the school that best meets their child’s educational needs. School Choice students are accepted on a space-available basis and transportation is the responsibility of the parent.

The order in which applications for School Choice are received prior to the deadline does not affect your chance of being accepted at your requested school. For each grade level where the number of choice/open enrollment applicants exceeds the number of spaces available, the determination of space availability for each applicant shall be made based on priority. School Choice applications submitted after the deadline will be placed on a wait list, pending availability.

International students will need to provide the following:

Students receiving Special Education Services will need to provide: Questions about Registration?
