PURPOSE:
The purpose of the Kinard Junior High Wrestling Program is to provide solid athletic competition using the vast array of skills and disciplines necessary in the sport of wrestling.

WRESTLING AT KINARD:
There is probably no other sport, which can reveal character in an individual more quickly than the ancient martial art of wrestling.  The wrestling program at Kinard will provide strong participation for many students.  It is our intent, with this 2008 season, to establish a quality program that will enhance a student’s athletic abilities.  Understanding the skills necessary for success in junior high wrestling, we will strive to improve our wrestling abilities with hard practices.  The 2008 season provides us with a great opportunity to excel in a fine sport!

WRESTLING POLICIES:

  1. At all times, the coaches will care for the health and spiritual well being of the participant.
  1. Wrestling requires quality physical conditioning.  All drills and practice sessions are designed to prepare the participant for Junior High competition.  (Solid conditioning has been proven to be an essential safeguard from possible injury.)
  1. NO one will participate in wrestling unless they have obtained a current doctor’s physical, have school insurance or an insurance waiver on file in the school office, and have completed all other athletic card needs.

PRACTICE SESSIONS:
Practice will be held every afternoon from 3:00 – 5:15 pm.  Participants MUST attend every practice if they have been in school that day.  (Exceptions:  Athlete needs a valid, WRITTTEN note BEFORE the absence will be excused.  The note should be given to Coach Limon before leaving school.)  Only (1) one excused absence per week for practice is allowed without penalty.  When leaving school due to illness, etc. checkout with the office AND Coach Limon before you leave.  Wrestlers should be ready to leave the school ground by 5:30pm*

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Each wrestler should have a T-shirt, gym shorts, socks, a protective undergarment (supporter, Speedo, or cycling-type compression shorts), crewneck sweatshirt, a towel, and clean high-top shoes.  It is highly recommended that WRESTLING shoes be worn for practice and competition.  Wrestling shoes can be purchased at most sporting goods stores for around $45.  Some stores offer a discount to Junior High wrestlers.  Also, consider purchasing your own headgear…the school does have a number of these, but it is a good idea to have your own.  We may have some available for sale.

 AFTER PRACTICE:
After practice all wrestlers should go home, shower, do their homework and get lots of sleep.  This routine will keep us all healthy, as we will all be expending a great deal of energy each practice!  Clean workout clothes should be brought daily.  During cold/windy days, I highly suggest that each wrestler have a stocking cap to cover head and ears after practice.

WEIGHT CLASSES

No wrestler will lose weight beyond ONE weight class of their normal weight.  This initial weight will be kept on file.  Varsity wrestlers will have to “make weight” the day of the matches, and they will check in before school, at lunch and after school.  This close supervision will help wrestler make weight in a safe fashion.
            Weight Classes: 75,80,85,90,96,102,108,114,120,126,132,138,145,155,167, HWT

DIETARY CONCERNS
All wrestlers are encouraged to eat balanced meals including the four food group:
(1)Protein (2) dairy products (3) fruits and vegetables (4) breads and cereals.

    • Information is available upon request.
    • Soda pop and other junk food should be severely reduced during the season!

BEHAVIOR ISSUES
(1)  All wrestlers will show respect for all wrestling equipment.  Wrestlers will be charged    “replacement cost” for any lost or damaged equipment.

  • Any use of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco will be absolutely prohibited.  Infractions will be dealt with according to the Poudre R-1 policies.  Refer to the Code of Conduct.

(3)  Academic eligibility and citizenship requirements, as written in the student handbook will be rigidly followed.  If you prove that you cannot abide by gentlemanly conduct in the classroom, hallways or at any school function, EXPECT A DIRECT RESPONSE FROM US!  Keep your act straight as you represent your team everywhere you go.
