Accelerated Reading

Accelerated Reader is a self-paced, individualized computer-assisted reading program. Students read AR books on their assigned reading level as indicated by the STAR test results, which are taken three times a year. Children read books and then take computerized multiple-choice quizzes that measure their comprehension of the books. Points are received based upon comprehension and the number of points the book is worth. Students then become a member of point clubs ranging from ten points all the way about to the 500 point club. We have even had a few students reach over 700 points in one year! All point club members are recognized at school assemblies throughout the year. Students are also able to use their points to buy items from the school store, which is run by student council members.

There is a Laurel notebook available which lists all quizzes at the public library.
