Dear Laurel Parents/Guardians,

Thank you all for your support of the Laurel events held in February!

  • Our Violin/Mandolin concert was a huge success.  Our K – 5 students gave a fabulous performance.
  • The Laurel Lynx Statue dedication was a nice tribute to the 1990’s Nature Club.  Six former students were able to attend and were honored to be in attendance and see their hard work come to fruition.
  • Kindergarten registration was a great success.  We will again have four Kindergarten classes for the 2010 – 11 School year.

I’d like to thank two Laurel parents who have been serving on the District Boundary Steering Committee.  Erin Giveans and Lisa Cunningham have been involved in the process and have provided excellent insight and input for boundary scenarios.  Thank you, Erin and Lisa!  All parents and community members are encouraged to attend one of the public boundary meetings any time between 5 and 7 p.m., Monday, March 1st  or Wednesday, March 3rd. Both meetings will be held at the Rocky Mountain High School Commons. RMHS is located at 1300 W. Swallow in Fort Collins. The public will have the opportunity to review changes and offer feedback.  For more information about the process visit “Elementary Boundary Process,” under “District Updates” on the PSD Web site.

Laurel Elementary School of Arts & Technology will be celebrating Read Across America Day on Tuesday, March 2nd.  All parents are invited to celebrate with us—ask your teacher how you can be involved!  We will have community volunteers (i.e. firefighters, police officers, FCHS administrators, retired teachers, etc.) spending time at Laurel to be guest readers.

Beginning March 8th through March 26th all Third, Fourth and Fifth grade students will be taking the Colorado State Assessment Program (CSAP) tests in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Science (5th only).  Students are excited to show what they have learned!

Please make plans to attend the Curriculum Fair on Friday, March 26.  Students are already preparing and looking forward to share classroom projects, artwork, science projects, etc.  Performances by students in Music and Theatre are also included on the night’s agenda!  Please plan to have dinner with us and help the current 4th grade students raise funds for their 5th grade ECO trip to YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park.

Have an enjoyable, restful, fun, and safe Spring Break March 12 – 21!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Tommi Sue Cox
