Lesher 3K Fun Run/Walk!

Students, faculty and parents…the first ever Lesher 3K Fun Run/Walk is upon us on June 1!  The last day of school!  Bring your tennis shoes and be ready to join the Viking Family for some fun!  Turn in your waivers as soon as possible to your Gold 1 teachers.  This is sponsored by the Fuel Up To Play 60 Team and the Lesher Wellness Team.

Math Camp June 25 - 29

 In collaboration with the Poudre School District
Presents Math Circles 2012
June 25 – June 29
9:30AM-3:00PM Monday-Thursday, 9:30-12:00 Friday
Department of Mathematics
Weber Building, CSU

Target Audience: students entering 8th or 9th grade.

Activities: A week of mathematical exploration and discovery led by Colorado State University mathematicians. Each day, students will be entertained by two in-depth topical lectures and activities. Lunch will be provided Monday-Thursday. Math Circles end at noon on Friday.

Registration: Limited to first 25 girls and 25 boys registered by June 1st. Applications from students not in the target grades may be considered on a space available basis. Algebra I background or higher required. Need based scholarships are available.

Better get your yearbook - they are selling fast! You can purchase a book in the front office for $37. Yearbooks will be distributed the last week of school! If you don't remember if you have purchased one, please contact rknips@psdschools.org

Car Wash to Raise Money for Good cause

Is your ride looking tired and busted?  Do you wish your plane, train, or automobile would sparkle like it once did?  Well, you are in luck!  This Friday, May 18 (NEW DATE!!) from 3:30-5:30 our expert staff of 6th graders will be using their training in the ancient art of “auto washy” to clean up those cars for a good cause.  All proceeds benefit the Fort Collins Animal House and Kony 2012. 

So come to the east Lesher parking lot on Friday afternoon to get a professional grade wash for $5.00, or $2.00 if you bring a dog toy to donate.  Word on the street is that anyone who’s anyone will be here!

Science O team Takes 3rd in State!

Congratulations to our 3 Science Olympiad teams that competed at the state competition in Golden, Colorado on April 21st, 2012. We had 26 students place in the top 5 in their events, and one of our teams placed 3rd overall at the state competition. Huge congratulations to all participants!

STEM Courses @ Lesher

Lesher is partnering with Preston Middle School to be a satellite campus for their STEM Institute from June 11-15 (8 – 11am and 12 – 3pm with an hour for lunch). In addition to Lesher and Preston, STEM Institutes will also be held at Webber, Wellington, Fossil, and Pingree Park this summer!

Poetry Month Award Winners

Congratulations to the winning 75 Lesher poets, 25 from each grade, who were recognized during the three lunches on Thursday, April 12,  with punch and cake, awards to top placers, and a drawing for prizes.  Judges Mrs. Marsh and Mr. Sterling were impressed by the high quality writing of Lesher students.

MathCounts Places 5th in State

On March 10, our Lesher MathCounts team placed 5th at the MathCounts state tournament at the Colorado School of Mines.  We are very proud of this great performance by our team of Jungwon Kang, Ellie Draves, and Chris and Josh Knebel.  Allen Yang also competed in the tournament and did a great job!  Pleasecongratulate these great mathletes when you see them! 


Holiday and George win Art Awards

Congratulations to 8th graders Sierra Holiday and Hunter George as they both have received high honors recently for their art projects.

Sierra was chosen to display her art work at the district office for 2012  SuperArt exhibition along with other students across Poudre school district! Hunter George received a gold Key (which is a 1st place) in drawing in this years Colorado State Scholastic Art and Writing Competition! This is a huge honor with over 4,000 pieces entered and only 400 selected to be in the competition with even fewer receiving awards.

Schwartz Wins Geography Bee

On Friday, January 13th, the following sixteen 6th and 7th graders competed in the Lesher Middle School National Geography Bee!  Congratulations to: Nicholas Boyd, Laura Hirn, Kevin Kraemer, Jack McDonald, Emily Ray, Josh Schwarz, Tyler Olson, Zoie Smith, Darby Widdowson, Hyunsun Yoo, Jackson Kruse, Morgan Huffman, Anya Meisel, Destan Norman, Jonathan Engle and Belen Hernandez!    

After a heated competition which placed two 6th graders in the finals (Emily Ray and Josh Schwarz), ultimately Josh outlasted Emily and was crowed the Lesher Geography Bee Champion of 2012!  Congratulations to Josh and all of the contestants for your outstanding efforts!

Josh will move on and compete against other middle school students in Colorado. Good luck Josh!

Lesher named breakthrough school!

Lesher is one of ten secondary schools nationwide that will be recognized for its academic successes through the 2012 MetLife Foundation-NASSP Breakthrough Schools program. We will be honored at the 2012 NASSP Breaking Ranks K-12 Conference in Tampa, FL, March 8-10, 2012, receive a $5,000 grant, be featured in the NASSP's monthly magazine, Principal Leadership, and Mr. Dodd will participate in dissemination activities with other Breakthrough Schools principals at the NASSP National Conference and other venues throughout the year.
