6th and 7th Grade Transition Day

To assist students with successful transitions at the beginning of school year in conjunction with grade level changes, PSD proposes that incoming 6th, 7th,  9th and 10th grade students start school on August 17.  All grades of secondary schools would then start August 18, and elementary would start on August 19.

Following are the benefits of a district-wide transition day:

  • A transition day will help successfully orient students as an entire grade to their new school, given that 4 grades are moving in fall 2009.
  • The transition will be necessary for one year only  to support district wide configuration changes.
  • The negotiated elementary work day prior to the first elementary student attendance day will remain in place under this proposal.
  • The transition day will not require lengthening the school day or school year

For more information, contact principal Tom Dodd at 472-3810 or call district communications at 490-3427.

Lesher Earns Energy Star

Lesher has earned a 2009 Energy Star awards as recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) for superior energy performance.

To earn the Energy Star label, a building must demonstrate that it is in the top 25 percent of energy performance as compared to buildings of a similar type. Facilities must also meet current indoor air quality standards, as verified by a registered professional engineer.

In 2008, there were 730 labeled schools in the United States, and 35 in Colorado; of that, 21 were PSD schools.  Since 2000, 87 PSD schools have received Energy Stars.

For more information, contact Pete Hall, PSD director of facilities, at 490-3425 or Stu Reeve, PSD senergy manager, at 490-3502.

NJHS Gives Flowers to Neighbors

On Saturday, April 25, National Junior Honor Society members completed one of their spring projects when they mulched the area beside the picnic tables at the back of the school.  Also, each member brought bedding plants, and students delivered them to homes around Lesher to show appreciation for our neighbors.
