Enrichment Classes 2007-2008

These classes are offered as a part of the regular school curriculum, quarters 2-4 for students who are eligible with grades to participate.

Guitarguitar.jpgEnrollment is open to student choice, and usually limited to about 12 students per quarter.  Students must provide own guitar.  This enrichment class is designed for beginner or intermediate players with limited experience.  Students are introduced to fundamental techniques of tuning and strumming, along with basic chords and melodies. Class meets for one quarter (grading period).

Mountain Dulcimer mdulcimer.jpgThe mountain dulcimer is one America's folk instruments, having been transformed upon these shores by immigrants in the Appalachians and embraced by them. Using 3 or 4 strings, it is a very accessible instrument to play. Class meets for one quarter (grading period).

African Percussion djembe.jpgWe are all percussionists first! (Witness children with the tools from the kitchen cupboards!) African percussion is a hands-on class that explores the instruments, the playing techniques, the rhythms and the cultures of peoples in Africa. Class meets for one quarter (grading period).

Beginning Orchestra (Beginning 2nd Quarter) For any student who wishes to explore playing a string orchestra instrument (violin, viola, cello, double bass). Class meets for one quarter (grading period), but students may continue. Some school instruments are available for student use.
