About Link Crew

Why Link Crew?

Link Crew is a freshman/sophomore transition program that welcomes freshmen and sophomores and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their high school experience. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, Link Crew trains members of the junior and senior class to be Link Leaders. As POSITIVE role models, Link Leaders are motivators, leaders and teachers who guide the freshmen to discover what it takes to be successful in high school.

A year with the Link Crew begins with a spirited and interactive freshman orientation at the start of the school year. After a general assembly, the Link Leaders lead their Crew of nine to ten freshmen/sophomores through a series of fun, positive activities designed to help them all get to know each other as well as learn important campus information. These activitie450

s also spark discussion and thought regarding the upcoming responsibilities, choices and challenges of being in high school. The goal of the day is to welcome the freshmen and sophomores to their new campus and encourage them to think about the path they will take during the next four years.

After orientation Link Crew continues, providing a variety of both Academic and Social Follow Up Activities throughout the year. The Academic Follow Ups are lessons presented by trained Link Leaders during visits to freshmen and sophomore classes. These lessons are designed to give freshmen and sophomores the skills needed to be successful during their high school years and beyond. Social Follow Ups provide social settings for the Link Leaders and their Crews to reconnect and further build relationships outside the classroom.

While the transition to high school can be a major event in the life of a young person, very few strategies for support exist in most high schools. Many seniors find it "fun" to pick on freshmen and many schools simply write it off as tradition. Creating a safe and positive learning environment for all students has become a major priority as many educators are finding that the traditional "fun and games" of teasing each other can often result in dire consequences.

At Poudre High School, we believe that students are an important resource that should be utilized to help create an environment where every student sees themselves as successful. Developing the leadership skills in our students will give them the opportunity to become productive, contributing citizens within the Poudre community. Link Leaders working together will develop the types of relationships among our student body that will encourage individual growth and encourage participation in more of the positive activities that we offer at Poudre High School.

As a result of our Link Leaders collaborative efforts, we believe that we will witness an increase in the attendance rate, fewer disciplinary issues, increased academic achievement, and greater participation in extracurricular activities at Poudre High School.
