Expectations

Academics

Academics are the #1 priority. If you miss a class due to a track meet, the athlete is expected to make arrangements with his or her teachers before the meet. Work missed on the day of a track meet is to be made up in advance.

Eligibility

If an athlete’s name appears on the “Eligibility Warning List” or the “Ineligible List,” the athlete will do school work with one of the coaches during an “off” period. If the athlete has no “off” period, they will do make-up work during lunch or before school.

Commitment

  • Team practices begin at 3:30 sharp at the PHS track. All team members will be present unless you, personally, see the coach prior to practice… don’t send someone with a message.
  • All runners will participate in all the training unless provided a special program by the coach.

Our expectation is that the student-athlete commit to track by attending all practices and meets. If the athlete is going to miss a practice or meet for any reason, the athlete must inform a coach before hand.

Equipment

  • Be in acceptable practice gear always.
  • We will wear only PHS gear throughout our competitive experience.
  • Tuck in your jersey
  • We will always dress up at school on competition days. Represent your team well!

You are responsible for all equipment checked out to you. If you lose it, you will have to pay for it. Don’t leave things lying around during meets. Make sure you lock your athletic locker.

Team Pride

Athletes are expected to show good sportsmanship at all times. Athletes need to be cognizant of the fact that they are representing Poudre High School and that their behavior needs to reflect the high standards expected of Impala sports participants. Please practice the behavior of a model student; your actions and language should not cause any embarrassment to you or to the team. Athletes are expected to act as a

team, practice as a team, and compete as a team. A team supports all of its team members all of the time. Athletes are expected to dress up on the day of the meet.

Safety

When running on the road, always run against traffic unless you are on a sidewalk. Always obey all traffic signs and signals. Please do not run in a group blocking the flow of traffic. Be alert for bike riders, especially when running in a bike lane. Always run with a partner.

Injury

  • If you are injured, check with the coach at the beginning of training. Otherwise, 100% effort will be expected.

No one wants to be injured and unable to compete. Paying attention to basic stretching, warming up and cooling down, and keeping an eye on the condition of your running shoes are to your advantage with regards to preventing injuries. Keep the coaches informed of any soreness, tenderness, or potential flair ups that could blossom into an injury. Communicate with the coaches that you are injured or sick; we are unable to work with you if we are unaware of the situation. Our athletic trainer is a skilled, knowledgeable, and competent sports medicine trainer who can assist you with injuries and your rehabilitation.

Athletes who require physical- therapy, medical attention, or general training, must exactly follow the certified trainer’s program.

To succeed in competition and in PHS Track you must take care of both your body and your mind. You must attempt to do your best everyday: that’s all it takes in athletics and Life. Enjoy the satisfaction of honest effort and being part of our TEAM. If you have reservations about your commitment, please let the coaches know so that expectations are clear to the coaches.
