AIM Time

A Time to Educate the Whole Child

Beginning this fall 2005, Poudre High School is looking to create time for students to increase achievement through the ideas of relationship and relevancy. Research has shown that the number one correlation to success in high school is a meaningful relationship or connection with an adult in an academic setting, usually a teacher. To help achieve this goal, AIM time will be provided for students on Wednesdays from 10:01 a.m. to 10:46 a.m.

Transition from one year to the next can create different needs and challenges. AIM will be delineated into separate classes for each grade as each year is different, and AIM will provide individual learning for each grade. Freshman AIM will be involved with Critical Skills training and a time for students to transition to high school. Sophomore AIM time will include team building, relationship building with adults and peers, unlocking the learner, resilience, and transitions. Junior and Senior AIM classes will provide tutoring time and seminars that help with achievement as well as transitioning points for future education or jobs.

Ultimately Poudre is looking to create learning readiness as an integral part of your student’s education. Learning readiness will increase motivation, attentiveness, listening skills, and communication skills. Personalization gives students a sense of belonging and the feeling that someone cares about their education both academically and personally. By starting AIM, Poudre hopes to begin a path to provide students with advocates, relationships, resilience, and understanding transitions.

If you have any questions, concerns or comments we welcome your input into the AIM time. Please contact Sandra Lundt, Rich Yonker, Lorri Fowler, or John Knight at Poudre.
