COURSE REGISTRATION and COURSE SCHEDULING PROCESS
For current 10 th and 11 th graders
NOTE: IB, ELA and SpED students will undergo a slightly different process
STEP 1
Beginning Jan. 21 st, counselors will be going into 10 th and 11 th grade history and geography classes to handout registration materials and explain the registration process. If you do not have a history or geography class, see your assigned counselor.
STEP 2
Once you have all of the registration materials, use your Transcript, the Registration Guide and the Course Survey Sheet (green sheet) to decide on which courses you want and need for graduation, college or career plans.
- Current 10 th and 11 th graders must select a minimum total of 50 credits with a minimum of 15 credits written in as alternates (courses you’d be willing to take should the ones you circled not be available to you).
- PaCE, Independent Study and Teacher Aids cannot count toward the minimum 50 credits.
- The maximum allowable total that can be selected is 60 credits, unless you have counselor approval, or are in music courses or PaCE (which would be added to the maximum or minimum).
STEP 3
BEFORE MARCH 5 th, set your required 15 minute appointment with your assigned counselor. You will discuss your course selections, plans for the next year, options after high school, hand in any applications for special programs, and hand in your green Course Survey Sheet at this meeting. BRING YOUR GREEN SHEET!
- Set appointment during either your open period, before or after your first or last class of the day, during your lunch, or pre-approve with your teacher before scheduling this meeting during class time (this must be teacher pre-approved).
- Parents are welcome—if they come please be sure to sign up for a 30 minute appointment instead of 15 minutes—they ask more questions J.
- Do not procrastinate setting this appointment! The closer we get to March 5 th the more difficult it will be to get an available time slot.
- Students who do not meet with their counselor before March 5 th will get a “Why Me?” schedule. This means that counselors pick the courses according to what is needed and the schedule cannot be changed once they are finished in the summer.
