Audition Info

The Poudre High School Music Department will be holding our annual Incoming Student Auditions on Monday March 10, and Wednesday March 12 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30. Auditions will be held in the Poudre Music Hall. You may audition for Band, Choir and Orchestra on these nights. We will listen to students on a first come, first served basis. There is no sign-up necessary until you arrive on the audition night. All incoming 9th and 10th graders are encouraged to participate! One of the best ways to prepare for any audition is taking private lessons. For a copy of our private lesson list click here.

Band Audition Materials

Incoming band students should either play the Junior High Honor Band Audition for this year, or play the Incoming Band Student audition for your instrument. This music is available from your Junior High Director, or you can download the pdf. file on the right hand side of this page.

Band students will sign up on arrival, and fill out an audition form. Then you can warm-up in the instrument locker room until you're up. First you'll play your scales and do some sight reading with Mr. Leonard in the Music Technology Lab, then you'll go across the hall to the Band Room and play your prepared piece for Mr. Petersen. He will answer any questions you have after the audition is done. We're very excited to have you in the band next year. We offer some of the finest groups in the state, and we promise you'll have a lot of fun.

The auditions will be for placement in the concert groups (Concert Band, Symphonic Band &Wind Ensemble), the jazz ensembles (Jazz I, Jazz II, Combo &Traditional Jazz Ens.) and chamber ensembles (Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet, Sax Quartet & Percussion Ensemble). Auditions for chair placement within each ensemble won't occur until school starts.

Do I Have To Audition?

NO!! If you're not comfortable doing an audition, that's fine. You'll be placed in Concert Band, and it's no problem. We want band to be a lot of fun for everybody, just be sure to tell your counselor to sign you up for band.
