Who We Are
The Poudre Jazz program is made up of 4 groups. Jazz Band I, Jazz Band II, Jazz Combo and Traditional Jazz Ensemble. All groups, except for Jazz II, are auditioned. Jazz I and Jazz II are 17-20 piece big bands, playing a wide repertoire of music. Jazz Combo and Traditional Jazz Ensemble are 6-7 piece groups with a focus on improvisation and ensemble communication. What We Do
The Jazz Bands give 4 concerts during the school year, basically one per quarter. Jazz I will perform at 2-3 Jazz Festivals across the state. Jazz Combo will perform at 1-2 festivals, numerous community events, and the CU Jazz Combo Festival. The Traditional Jazz Ensemble will play 1-2 festivals and several community events. Jazz II will play at the UNC Jazz Festival in April. This year we plan to revive the Poudre School District Old Town Jazz Festival, and all our groups plus many other Jazz groups from the city will perform. The dates for this festival are still TBA. Last year, Jazz Combo and Jazz I were invited to perform with the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra at Dazzle Restaurant and Lounge in Denver. We hope to perform with them again this year.
