offers diverse opportunities to meet the varied learning styles of our
students. Service delivery is needs-based and offered at various academic
levels.
Mild Needs. All schools in Poudre School District have programs
for students with mild needs. These programs serve students with varied
disability conditions, i.e., Learning Disabilities, Communication Disabilities,
Cognitive Disabilities and Emotional Disabilities. The student continues
as a regular education student but also receives educational support
and instruction from a special education teacher.
Moderate Needs (Affective and Cognitive). The Moderate Needs program
is for students with special needs who require a special education program
and/or services more than 50% of their school day but who can benefit
from participation in one or more academic/non-academic subjects with
students who are not disabled. Students with the above needs may have
varied disability conditions, i.e., Learning Disability, Cognitive Disability,
Communication Disability, Physical Disability or Multiple Disability.
This program is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills
that are relevant and useful in terms of self-help, academic, independent
living and vocational skills.
The Moderate Needs Course of Study includes alternative classes that
offer equivalent credit hours to meet district graduation requirements
at the secondary level. In addition, the district realizes the importance
of addressing the affective needs of students through provision of direct
and indirect teaching of social skills and the enhancement of the student's
self-concept.
Severe Needs (Affective and Cognitive). Students with severe
or profound cognitive needs are served in Life Skills or Adaptive Skills
classes.
