  1. Regular class attendance is one of the most important aspects of a student's educational program.

  2. The educational process requires a continuity of instruction and active classroom participation.

  3. There is a strong correlation between consistent class attendance, parental involvement and academic success. It is recognized that students who attend daily acquire not only the basic skills and knowledge, but also much incidental learning as well.

  4. Student attendance is primarily student and parental responsibility. All absences not reported within 24 hours will be considered an unexcused absence. Parent/guardian may call any time of the day or night at 488-6002.

  5. The attendance office automated calling machine will make daily calls to your home for absences that have not been excused.(It does not call for tardiness-only absences.)

  6. Parents and students are strongly encouraged to use the PIV system online. Using your student's ID number and 7-digit PIN number, you can log on from the PHS home page. Look for the "PIV" link at the top of the page.

  7. The Previous day's absences are posted daily. It is the STUDENT'S responsibility to check PIV for individual class absences. If the student believes an error has occurred, they should notify the teacher immediately.

  8. When the 4th absence from a class occurs, (whether excused or unexcused), written notification will be sent to the parent or guardian notifying them of attendance concerns

  9. When the student is FAILING, teachers will notify the parents by phone or e-mail.

  10. SENIORS may take two days during the year as school excused absences to visit colleges, if they pick up a visitation form from the Guidance Office or Attendance Office prior to their trip.

  11. There will be one day allowed for makeup of assignments for each day of excused absence.

  12. Students who have accumulated (6) or more absences will be dropped from the class unless they go through the appeal process and their appeal is approved.
