8th Grade and Freshman Student Athletes and Their Parents Tryout and Participation Requirements
A recent Colorado High School Activities Association Rule could impact your eligibility. Once a student attends or participates at a high school in sports and/or academics that becomes in effect their home school. Should at any later date the student choose to “school of choice” to a different school or return to what was their “home school” based on place of residency, they will lose 50% of their varsity athletic eligibility in sports in which they have participated. This means that before the School Of Choice cutoff date of February 6, 2004, 8th grade students and their parents should be certain that the high school they have chosen to attend beginning with their 9th grade is in fact the school they want to attend for the next four years to avoid losing eligibility. Should you have any questions regarding this rule please call your school counselor, principal, or District Athletic Coordinator Sandi Martin.Physical Cards Required
Boys and girls wanting to participate in any sport during the school year must have a physical examination signed by a medical doctor, nurse or physician's assistant before the sport's season begins. Athletic physical forms and training regulation forms are available at school or by calling the District Athletic Office at 490-3106.Completed forms, with all requested signatures, must be submitted to the Athletic Director before any athlete will be permitted to practice. There will be no exceptions made regarding this matter. .
Participation Fees
Poudre School District requires that students pay $50 (the high schools require that students pay a $75) per sport participation fee before they compete in a contest. Cheerleaders, athletic trainers and managers are exempt from this requirement. There is a $200 per year family maximum. Students who meet federal guidelines for the free or reduced lunch program will have the participation fee waived after they turn in a completed application form to their school's office manager. Students should contact their coaches or the athletic director for further information.Preston Junior High School Athletic Eligibility Requirements
Preston Athletic / Extracurricular Policy:A student shall be declared ineligible if he/she has below a "C" average in two or more subjects or if he/she uses inappropriate behavior in two or more classes. A student who is suspended from school will be declared ineligible. A student shall also be declared ineligible if he/she received below a "C" in one class and uses inappropiate behavior in another class. A student may not be declared ineligible by only one teacher, unless that student has that teacher for more than one class.
Eligibility will be determined weekly. At the beginning of each athletic season or the first week of an extracurricular activity, with the first notice of ineligiblity, the student will initially be given one week to bring up his/her grade or behavior before being declared ineligible and before consequences occur. This will happen only once; no further breaks will be given to the student. A student who is declared ineligible will miss the next contest.
