Advanced Placement Chemistry at RMHS

Ed Waterman, Chemistry Teacher

Advanced Placement Chemistry at Rocky Mountain High School covers the entire AP Chemistry Curriculum, the entire CSU freshman chemistry curriculum and a substantial portion of the second year college organic chemistry curriculum. The CSU and AP curricula are similar in content except that the labs are much more extensive at CSU than those defined by the AP curriculum. Rocky's AP Chemistry course meets or exceeds the standards of the best AP chemistry courses across the country in breadth and depth of content and in rigor. The best students are well prepared to pass the Advanced Placement Examination in Chemistry and are well qualified to receive credit directly from Colorado State University. Other ways students use RMHS's AP Chemistry class to qualify for college credit include passing the CLEP test and by challenging freshman chemistry courses at the university level. Some students choose AP chemistry for the decided competitive edge they carry into college. There are many measures of success for Rocky Mountain chemistry students. For example, they have consistently dominated local and state competitions such as the US International Chemistry Olympiad and the Elsie K. Nicol Chemistry Competition.
