RMHS CRISIS INFORMATION

This page was developed in the fall of 1999, to serve as a communication resource for parents or community members should an emergency situation occur at Rocky Mountain High School. We understand that contacting the school during times of crisis or emergency may be difficult, therefore, we intend to update this page as quickly as possible following any crisis which necessitates an emergency meeting of Rocky Mountain's Crisis Response Team. The information provided on this page will be identical to any pre-deteremined statement a secretary would be able to make over the phone during the midst of a crisis.

When no crisis situation is occurring, the following brief overview of Rocky Mountain's Crisis Response Plan will be displayed.

Rocky Mountain High School has a detailed crisis response plan developed by a team of administrators, counselors, teachers, and support personnel. The Crisis Response Team meets periodically to review and update this plan.

Poudre School District and Rocky Mountain High School have each updated many security policies and procedures in response to recent tragic events in American schools. One of the promises we make to the public is to do everything we can to provide a safe learning environment for students. Therefore, Rocky Mountain High School has an active eight member Crisis Management Team. The team is comprised of teachers, administrators, SRO, and classified staff. Each classroom is equipped with a School Activation For Emergencies (S.A.F.E.) manual. The manual provides instructions for dealing with the foreseeable crises. The foreseeable crises outlined in the manual are accidental explosions, serious illness/injury/death of students or staff, fire, shooting, hazardous spills, intruders, disruptive students, weapons, power failure and weather emergencies.

Each year the staff undergoes thorough training and refresher courses designed to give them confidence in handling these crisis situations. Fire drills are mandated by state law and one drill will be practiced each semester. We will also practice "lock down" procedures in the event of dangerous intruders or extreme weather (tornado) situations. These drills are very serious in nature and the expectations are for the students to understand the reasons for employment and comply with directives.

  • School and district level mental health professionals are available in the event of a crisis to help staff and students deal with the event.
  • Statements updating parents to the available specifics are developed by the administration and sent home with students when appropriate. Updates may also be provided on the school information line (416-7003) and school web site.
  • School closures due to weather will be announced on local radio stations.
  • In the event of a long term evacuation students will be bused to Beattie Elementary School (223-0100).

If you have questions or concerns related to crisis response or security at Rocky Mountain please contact the administrator of the Crisis Response Team, Assistant Principal, Brett Larsen at 416-7007.
