FROM THE RMHS DEPARTMENT OF
ATHLETICS
Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year! We look forward to a successful
and enjoyable year in athletics, activities, and academics. Rocky
Mountain High School is a member of the Front Range League and the
Colorado High School Activities Association (CSHAA), and we adhere
to the standards and the policies of those organizations.
Several years ago, the CHSAA initiated a program called "Sportsmanship
- It's How You Play the Game" which aimed at developing good sportsmanship
during athletic competitions between high schools. The emphasis
is on generating positive support for the athletes and treating
opposing athletes and fans, as well as officials, with respect and
dignity. Rocky Mountain has earned five Class 5A state sportsmanship
championships. We are proud of this achievement, and we hope to
do even better this year.
With some exceptions, Front Range League and CHSAA guidelines prohibit
signs and noisemakers at all athletic contests. Also, fans should
remain off of the playing field at all times, including after the
game. Please help us continue the tradition of good sportsmanship
by observing these guidelines and focusing only on positive, supportive
cheering, Thank you for your continuous support.
T-E-A-M
In order for the student/athletes at Rocky Mountain High
School to receive maximum benefits through participation in interscholastic
athletics, it is essential for all interested parties to work together. Athletes,
coaches, parents, fans, and school staff must all contribute toward the achievement
of the educational goals inherent in athletic participation.
If any of these groups fails to fulfill its commitment to
athletic excellence, the student/athlete's participation in interscholastic
athletic competition will be proportionately less meaningful.
Parents should support the athletes and coaches and encourage
their student athlete's involvement. Fans should demonstrate good sportsmanship
toward opponents, as well as game officials. Coaches should conduct their programs
in accordance with high ethical standards. Athletes should make a sincere commitment
to their sport and their school. And school officials should model effective
leadership skills to ensure that all of these pieces come together properly.
If any of these parts of the puzzle is missing, the TEAM, that is the athletic
program, will be considerably weakened and the desired results will not be realized.
Remember - Together Everyone Achieves
More.
