PIV Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

From where can I access PIV?

PIV can be accessed from home, work or the public library. The computer must have a connection to the Internet and must be running Internet Explorer Version 5 or above.

How can I get my student's ID number?

Ask your student. Students use their ID numbers daily and are the quickest source for getting the information. If you cannot get the number from your student please call the school at 416-7023.

How can I get my student's PIN?

Ask your student.  Students use their PIN frequently and are the quickest source for getting the information. If necessary, you can contact the school at 416-7023.

Why do I keep getting the message "Error Processing Request" when trying to log on to PIV?

The wrong student ID number or PIN may have been entered. Confirm that the correct ID and PIN are entered.

The wrong school may have been selected. Make sure the correct school is selected.

The PIV server possibly is unavailable. Please wait and try again later.

A new PIN may be required if you have correctly entered the ID and PIN, have selected the correct school, and have confirmed that the system is available. (If you are able to look up another student's data then the system is available.) Contact the school at 416-7023 to request a new PIN.

Why is the assignment information in one or more classes blank?

Assignment and grade information is updated every two weeks at RMHS unless there is nothing to enter. Some classes are graded by projects rather than by assignments. The length of the project determines when a grade is recorded. The project could take as long as a single term to complete. Therefore, a final grade would be reported at the end of the term with nothing reported in the interim. Grading procedures for the class are included in the class expectations that is handed out to each student at the beginning of the class.

Students should talk with their teachers to determine why a grade or assignment is not displayed. The teachers can then make adjustments if necessary.

Why is grade information missing for the selected class?

Make sure that the correct term is selected under "Select a Marking Period." PIV reports current class information. Historical assignment information will only be found for classes that run for more than one term.

Why is the assignment grade an X or Z?

X and Z are special codes for missing assignments. Please return to PIV main page for a discussion of these codes. Have your student talk to the teacher about missing assignments.

Why did my student receive the grade that is recorded?

Have your student talk to the teacher about a recorded grade. Students are strongly encouraged to discuss class progress directly with their teachers. If further clarification is needed then parents can contact the teacher.

Why can't I see attendance information?

Attendance information is currently not available in PIV. Please call the student progress line (telephone system) for attendance reports.
