Kris Clagett called
the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Sign in sheet was
passed around. Kris announced that the meeting would adjourn
at 8:15 PM,
regardless of where we are on the agenda. Due to the amount of special guests, we need
to interrupt at 8:15 PM to allow parents who need to leave
to do so, and
those who wish to stay for the remainder of the meeting may
do so.

success and with sales of $11,619.00. Tavelli’s profit is
$5224.50. We set a goal
for $6500.00 that we wanted to earn we were short $1275.50
of making our goal.
Directory --
Stephanie Haile gave the report that we have made $1050.00 for
the sponsorship sales that are reserved for Tavelli families
to advertise
their businesses.
Pending final printing costs, profit will be confirmed at next
PTO meeting.
Cornstalk Carnival- Kris Clagett gave the report for
Stephanie Beckley. This
year they have incorporated the new Wellness Program into
the Soda Pop Toss,
kids will toss for a Gold Fish instead! Sweet Tooth Booth will still be a
part of Cornstalk Carnival as it is a tradition and we want
to strive for a
balance. Volunteer
sign-ups were distributed that week in Thursday notes. This is
Stephanie's last year as Cornstalk Chair. She is looking for
someone to take
it over for next year. It is a turnkey project. If there is anyone interested
please contact Stephanie or anyone on the PTO board.
Tiger Tales- Deadline is October 5 Th. This is a quarterly
publication and
PTO needs to utilize more to advertise our happenings and
events.
Bev Bachman - Bev is
standing in for Dr Lawler due a boundary meeting he
needed to attend.
First, there are a variety of activities that are being
implemented in the
classrooms this year.
Teachers have been busy analyzing the CSAP scores that have
come back from
State. Their main
focus is designing a lesson plan to address the areas needing
more attention while maintaining areas with solid results.
The teachers have
the CSAP individual scores, make sure to ask your teacher
for details. Teacher
teams (by grade level) have been looking over the
information and working as
a team to set goals to improve the areas that are needed.
Eco Ed: The sixth graders leave tomorrow for Eco Ed; the
cost is around
$6000.00. Students pay a fixed amount to attend. For those students who are not
able to cover the costs, and to help deter other costs, PTO
supports Eco Ed with
$1,500.00. If they
need to do a fundraiser the 6 Th. grades do a specific
fundraiser for Eco Ed.
Jane Carter- Original- Works of Art - Jane enjoyed working
with each student,
as they created their artwork. The order forms will be going
home later this
week. Parents have one week to look it over and submit
orders. This is a great
gift idea for Grandparents or family members. There is a
display that is set
up in the main lobby with all the different gifts
ideas. Orders will be back
at the end of November.
Evening of Art: We will be having an art show at school this
year instead of
at Foothills Mall.
This change will allow all students to participate. It
will be at the end of March. This event will be formal dress
with an evening of
music, with more details to come at a later date. PTO will support this event
with volunteers.
Program Energy -Dr. Campfield, Dr. Smith and their team of
CSU students are
working with kids to tackle the problem of childhood obesity
and Type II
Diabetes. Students K
through 6 Th. Grade gain knowledge of how everything in the
human body fits together and works. At Tavelli, Program
Energy is working with
2nd, 4th, and 6th grades. They work in groups of 4 to 5
children per adult.
They have scientist come in and visit them in the classroom.
Fourth grade
students have attended a cooking class, teaching them
different ways to cook things.
They made Johnny Cakes, this lesson incorporated science,
history, and math;
making it a meaningful lesson. Two students from fourth grade came to the
meeting to share their story with us. Charlotte Conway
“loves working with the CSU
students and the cooking class” and Program Energy she
said was “fun and she
has a good time learning.” Isaiah Thomas told us he
learned about healthier
activities like playing Frisbee golf. Isaiah also enjoyed the cooking class.
The focus of Program Energy is to teach kids how to have a
better quality of
life with minimum disease and maximum. Studies prove that
fit kids have better
tests scores and grades.
They will follow these students that they have
worked with until the day they graduate. Then they will go back ask questions and
check up on them from time to time. To see how many became a
sciences or
teacher. To see how much of impact they had on them. Also to
see if what they
learned has had an impact of their life. Program Energy has
funding until the year
2009. They may have to make a request for model programs,
sponsor, and
donation from the community to support the program with more
funding.
On November 9th , Program
Energy will take the 4th Grade on a field trip to
the Denver Museum of Science.
3 rd Grade Teacher -
Eileen Heath introduced the 3rd Grade Staff. Ms. Heath
indicated that they were there to answer questions from
parents. Question
from the group pertaining to testing in December. She did not know of any
testing in December.
She commented on CSAP testing and how the 3rd Grade team is
working to set goals to improve the necessary areas. Science
project will be
water. Social Studies they are working on all the state
maps.
4th Grade Teacher - Ryan Wulff introduced the 4th Grade
staff. This year's
emphasis is Colorado History and Project Energy. Janis Coughlin thanked the PTO
for the in-class financial support, allows her to have her
night of poetry.
They take a trip planned for Lowry State Park later in the
year.
Jane Harvey- Wellness - Jane explained that the Wellness
Program got started
when Dan Lawler asked the teachers, at the end of last year,
to think about
Wellness and how they could implement it in their
classrooms. The teachers came
back with a lot of ideas, and Dan Lawler agreed. There first
was to set up 3
groups:
1. Nutrition and
Education,
2. Fitness and
Activities
3. Communication
and Brochures.
At 8:15, Kris Clagett interrupts Jane and asks any parents
that need to leave
to feel free to do so.
The Wellness committee is currently made up of staff members
only, however,
parents are encouraged and welcome to join. They meet on the
2nd Thursday of
every month in the media center at 3:45 p.m. The three
individual groups meet
separately and at different times. All groups meet on a
monthly basis.
Tavelli and PVHS Healthy Kids Club are hosting 4th Annual
Duatholon. It will
be held Wednesday the October 19th. Duatholon is in need of
volunteers on
October 19th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m..
They have done a lot of changes in the lunchroom this year.
Giving the
children healthier choices for example, giving choice on the
lunch menu. They have
introduced the Inta Juice and it is served on Wednesdays,
and the cookies are
in smaller portion this is the last year.
