Media/Tech:

Rob Deakin reported on the technology that the kids are learning and broke it out into three levels, as follows: (1) First – third graders learn and use KID PIX and CLARIS Works.  Third graders are introduced to the Internet and learn how to integrate what they find on the internet into their school work and interests.  (2) Fourth – sixth graders begin learning keyboarding, MS Word, and how their research and findings on the Internet can aid them in their learning and knowledge.  (3) Fifth and sixth graders are given e-mail accounts and learn how to use them.  They also create electronic portfolios using Power Point.  Mr. Deakin showed examples of the Power Point presentations that the students had created.

Committee Reports:

Biomats:  Jane Spomer reported in Kris Clagett’s absence that the committee has received very positive feedback on the fundraiser and that all of the orders are not in, yet, but that it appears PTO has made almost $6,000, and that the committee hopes that this is a fundraiser that can be done again next year, as well.

Tiger Tales: Cindy Vanderheiden reported that the deadline for receiving items for publication in Tiger Tales is May 14th, and that this will be the last publication for this school year.

Sock Hop: Stephanie Beckley reported that the planning for this event is going well.  There will be a D.J.  The Fifth Graders will be selling pins with blinking lights on them and tattoos to raise money for next fall’s Eco Week.  There is still a need for chaperones.  If anyone is interested or knows someone who might be interested, please contact Stephanie.  The Dream Team kids have been asked to bring 2-Liter bottles of soft drinks as prizes for their game.

Teacher Requests:

Jane Spomer read a letter from the Title 1 and special education teachers requesting that they be included in next year’s budget for field trips.  After discussion, it was decided that this request would not be granted.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

This was the fifth and last PTO meeting for this school year.

Respectfully submitted,

Stephanie Barber-Haile
