2. Class Orientation Meetings, May 28th -- On Wednesday, May 28 from 2:50-3:20 p.m. we are planning an orientation meeting to allow each student to spend time with his/her newly assigned teacher. We believe that this will be a positive step to help students prepare and be excited for next year.

3. Important Dates to Note – As our school year winds down, the following after school activities will be ending soon. The final day for walking and running club and the sixth grade study hall will be Thursday, May 22nd, and the final banking day will be Monday, May 19th.

4. Last Day of School – The last day of the school year will be a half-day Friday, May 30.  Classes will be dismissed at 12:00 noon and no lunch will be served. All busses will run. There will be no half-day kindergarten that day, full day kindergartners will be dismissed at noon.

5. Library Books Due – All books checked out from the Tavelli Library need to be returned by next Thursday, May 15th.  We will search for missing books here before sending bills to parents for any lost books.  If you find a book over the summer that you paid for, we will cheerfully refund your money next fall! Thanks, Linda Payton, Librarian.

6. Dream Team Field Trip – Mark your calendars! The Dream Team Field Trip to 6 Flags Elitch Gardens is Tuesday, May 27th.  Busses will leave at 9:00 a.m. and return to Tavelli at 5:00 p.m. Permission slips will be sent home next week with the Dream Team Students who qualify for this trip.

7.  Costumes Needed For Dream Team – Do you have a Santa Suit or an Elvis Costume hanging in your closet that you no longer need? Dream Team would love to take it off your hands. If you have a costume you can donate to the Dream Team cause, please drop it off at the office, or call Mr. Deakin at 488-6725. Thank you!

8. CAPS 4 CASH-- Earn money for Tavelli just by recycling bottle caps from Morning Fresh Dairy bottles and turning them in to the school!  Each cap from milk, lemonade or other bottles can be redeemed for 5 cents.  Friends and family that do not go to Tavelli can go online to morningfreshdairy.com to learn how to donate that way too!  Start collecting and saving over summer to earn your class a brilliant surprise next school year.  Got milk?

9.  Safe Routes to School! -- Across the City we have seen great turnouts of families walking, biking and skating through the Safe Routes to School Program and the Fit for Life campaign.  Please note that next Wednesday, May 14th, is the last Wednesday to participate and be eligible to win prizes.  Turn your Safe Routes to School punch pass into the front office during the week of May 21st.  If you have questions or have lost your registration form and need another, please contact Mrs. Harvey.

10. Kindergarten boys interested in joining Cub Scouts next school year--The Pack 197, May Meeting will be held at Brink's Ranch on May 15 at 6:00pm.  New Tiger Cub or kindergarten boys that register at the event will receive their Tiger Cub scarf as well as a schedule of summer Cub Scout activities including day camp and overnight camp.  Opening Flag Ceremony will begin at 6:00pm, followed by a hamburger and hotdog cookout, ice cream bars, and drinks, ending at 8:30pm. Please take Overland Trail north and turn left immediately before the Poudre River (approx 1/4 mile north of Bingham Hill Road).  For information or to RSVP, contact Cub Master Pat Knebel at 490-1703.

11. Fifth Grade Parents -- In keeping with Tavelli tradition, we are looking for a few 5th grade parents to serve refreshments after the 6th grade ceremony, Friday, May 30 from approximately 9:30-11:30 a.m. If you can help please contact Wendy Hanrahan at (970) 484-0952 or wendyhan#6@msn.com; or Melanie Fronapfel at (970) 232-9426 or errofron@aol.com.

12. Attention future parents of 3rd or 5th grade students! --Will your child be in third or fifth grade next fall?  Due to the overwhelming support we received from parents this year, 3rd and 5th grade teachers are asking parents for money to purchase school supplies next year for their child, $20 for 3rd graders, and $25 for 5th graders.  This money will cover all of the supplies needed for the 2008-2009 school year!

Each grade level has an account that the money will be deposited into.  Parents will need to make checks out to Tavelli and the funds will be deposited into the proper account.  Send a check with your child to school in an envelope and their teacher will send it to the office to be deposited into either the 3rd or 5th grade account.  Please make sure your child’s name and what grade level they will be in next year is on the envelope. For parents who would rather wait until school starts: Simply send a check the first day of school.  Of course, cash is also accepted. A note will be sent home reassuring you that we have received your check. Thank you from your 3rd and 5th grade teachers!

PTO News

1.  Use Your Albertson’s Card – The PTO would like to pass on a reminder to you to use your Albertson’s card when you are shopping. We are experiencing a shortage of funds for several of our school functions, like school t-shirts and the Dream Team program. You can help us by using your Albertson’s card. At this time last year, we earned $1,500, but we have collected only $150 this year to date. Please do what you can to help Tavelli raise the funds necessary to continue to support our great activities and programs. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2. May PTO Meeting-Make tracks to the Tavelli Media Center on Tuesday May 13th at 7:00 p.m. –This would be a great time to come and hear what’s going on in the 5th grade and special education classrooms. The teachers will be on hand to share what they are doing and to answer any questions! We love to see new faces and hear new ideas. See you there!
