Welcome to the Webber Junior High School home page! We hope you will find current information, policies and a flavor of life at "The Web" as we affectionately refer to our school. As Webber enters its second decade, it has emerged as a structured and caring environment with an emphasis on excellence in all curricular areas. With an enrollment nearing 900, we attract students from across the district who are looking for variety and quality of opportunities. What we have done in preparation for the change:
- Weekly Readiness Planning Team meetings with much research via books, articles, and online
- Ongoing questions to staff and students and SIT/PTO parents/guardians to gather input and feedback on ideas
- Ongoing collaboration with the Rocky feeder system schools for vertical articulation and transition
- Visits to numerous middle schools in the state and virtual tours of middle schools around the country
- Consulting with middle school experts on scheduling and teaming
- Attendance at middle school conferences
Some of what we’re focusing on/thinking about in preparation:
- Educating ourselves on developmental needs of young adolescents
- Active, engaging, integrative, age-appropriate instructional methods
- How to foster health, wellness and safety for all students
- Communication with families in our feeder schools
- Scheduling—what might it look like? Can we have teams of core teachers?
- Scheduling of 6 th grade classes in the building and passing times
- Systematic adult advocacy
- Intervention for both remediation and enrichment
- Transition activities for the movement of two grades in and two grades out
- Discipline ladder/range of consequences
- Homework and grading policies
- Delivery of services—special education, gifted and talented, ELL, 504
- Extra-curricular clubs and intramurals for 6 th graders
- School activities, traditions and recognition programs
- How to enhance family and community partnerships
- Materials and supplies that need moved and/or purchased
